01Who is responsible for your information
The responsible party for personal information collected through this website is Turren Chetty, trading as TurrenBuildsWealth. In this policy “we”, “us” and “Turren” mean him.
- Information Officer: Turren Chetty
- Email: info@turrenbuildswealth.co.za
- Phone / WhatsApp: 071 862 0240
Turren is a financial advisor and a representative of Liberty Group Limited, an authorised financial services provider (FSP 2409). Once you ask for a quote, apply for or hold a Liberty product, Liberty is also responsible for the information it receives about you, and Liberty’s own privacy notice on liberty.co.za applies to that information.
02What we collect
What you give us
- The enquiry form: your name, phone or WhatsApp number, email address (optional), the solution you are interested in, how you prefer to be contacted, your message, and your confirmation that Turren may contact you.
- WhatsApp, calls and email: your number or address, your name or profile name, and whatever you choose to send.
- If you become a client: to give advice, the law requires Turren to understand your financial situation. That means information such as your ID number, date of birth, income and expenses, assets and debts, dependants and beneficiaries, existing policies and investments and — for life, disability and dread disease cover — health and lifestyle information. Liberty and the Financial Intelligence Centre Act also require identity documents and, for debit orders, banking details. This is collected during the advice process, mostly on Liberty’s own forms and systems, not through this website.
Please don’t send ID numbers, medical information or banking details through the website form or in a public comment. Turren will tell you how to share them securely when they are needed.
What is collected automatically
- Where you came from. When you arrive, the site notes the campaign tag in the link you followed (for example a TikTok advert or profile link) or the website that sent you, and keeps it in your browser’s session storage. It reaches us only if you send an enquiry, so we can see which channel brought it. Your browser deletes it when you close the tab.
- The page you enquired from, sent with the form.
- Your IP address, which the site uses for about ten minutes to stop the form being flooded with spam, and which the hosting company’s server logs record, as all web servers do.
- Website statistics. Google Analytics records how the site is used — pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser, and how you arrived. See Cookies and analytics.
03Why we use it, and on what basis
POPIA allows personal information to be used only for a specific, lawful purpose and on one of the grounds in section 11. We use yours:
- To answer your enquiry and arrange a consultation — with your consent (the box you tick on the form), and because you asked us to take that step.
- To give you financial advice and arrange the products you choose — to do what you have asked for, and to meet the duties in the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act (FAIS) and its General Code of Conduct, such as doing a needs analysis and keeping a record of advice.
- To meet other legal duties — such as identity verification and record keeping under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, and requests from regulators, ombuds and courts.
- To run and protect the website — seeing which channels bring enquiries, stopping spam and abuse, and improving the site. This is in our legitimate interest and has little effect on your privacy.
- To send you updates and offers — only if you have agreed to receive them, or you are an existing client (see Direct marketing).
Health information is special personal information under POPIA. It is collected only when it is needed to apply for or claim on cover, with your consent, and it is passed to the insurer for that purpose only.
We collect only what we need for these purposes, and we will not use your information for an unrelated purpose without telling you or asking you first.
05Information sent outside South Africa
Some of the services above store information on servers outside South Africa — Google (Tag Manager, Analytics and, if used, Google Sheets), TikTok and WhatsApp in particular. Our host, xneelo, keeps the website, the saved enquiries and the mailbox on servers in South Africa.
Section 72 of POPIA allows this when the recipient is bound by a law, binding corporate rules or an agreement that protects your information to a standard substantially similar to POPIA, when you consent, or when the transfer is needed to do what you asked for. We rely on those providers’ data-protection terms and, where needed, on the transfer being necessary to deal with your enquiry or give you the service you asked for.
06How we protect it
- The website is built to run over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, so the form is sent encrypted.
- Enquiries are saved in the password-protected WordPress admin area. They are never shown on the public site and can be opened only by Turren and the website developer.
- The form has spam and flood protection.
- Information you give during the advice process is kept on Liberty’s systems, which have their own security controls.
No website or email system is completely secure. If we have reason to believe that your personal information has been accessed or acquired by an unauthorised person, we will tell the Information Regulator and you as soon as reasonably possible, as section 22 of POPIA requires.
07How long we keep it
- Enquiries that don’t go further are deleted no later than 12 months after our last contact, or sooner if you ask.
- Client records — needs analyses, records of advice, applications and identity documents — are kept for at least five years after the advice was given or the business relationship ended, because the FAIS Act and the Financial Intelligence Centre Act require it, and longer only when the law, a complaint or a claim requires it.
- Website statistics are kept for the period set in Google Analytics, currently 14 months.
- The “where you came from” note stays in your browser only until you close the tab.
When information is no longer needed, it is deleted or de-identified.
08Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you, and for a copy of it;
- ask us to correct information that is wrong, incomplete or out of date, or to delete information we are no longer allowed to keep;
- object to us using your information on the ground of our legitimate interest, and object at any time to direct marketing;
- withdraw your consent at any time — this does not affect what was done before, or information the law requires us to keep;
- not be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing — Turren does not make decisions about you that way;
- complain to the Information Regulator (see Complaints).
To use any of these rights, email info@turrenbuildswealth.co.za or WhatsApp 071 862 0240. We may ask you to prove your identity first, so that your information never goes to the wrong person. We will respond within a reasonable time, and to a request for access within 30 days. For information Liberty holds about your policies, you can also contact Liberty directly on 0860 456 789.
09Direct marketing
Ticking the box on the form lets Turren contact you about your enquiry. It is not consent to marketing.
We will send you marketing — by WhatsApp, SMS, email or phone — only if you have agreed to it, or if you are an existing client and the message is about products or services similar to the ones you have, as section 69 of POPIA allows. Every marketing message will tell you how to opt out, free of charge.
To stop marketing, reply “STOP” to the message or tell us at info@turrenbuildswealth.co.za or 071 862 0240. We will stop, and keep a note of your objection so you are not contacted again. Liberty’s own marketing to its clients is covered by Liberty’s privacy notice.
11Children
This website is meant for adults, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 through it. Planning for education or naming beneficiaries can involve a child’s details; we process those only with the consent of the child’s parent or legal guardian, and only for that plan, as section 35 of POPIA requires.
12Other websites and apps
This site links to Liberty, WhatsApp, TikTok and other services. Their own privacy policies apply once you leave this site or use their service, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information.
13Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please tell Turren first at info@turrenbuildswealth.co.za so he can put it right. You may also complain to the Information Regulator at any time:

We may update this policy when the law, our services or the tools on this site change. The date at the top shows the current version. If a change affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell you before it takes effect.
